Some said it was a PR stunt, others that the timing was just right, whatever the case may be, when animal-loving, Greek-born Motley Crue drummer released his story of Greek pride on his Facebook page, he made Greeks far and wide proud. And for that alone we are grateful. It is vital that those who are granted fame in whatever field “come out” to support causes, ideas and ideals, as they carry the weight and credibility of their reputation and the power to reach out to the masses.
Tommy Lee may have felt the urge to share his reasons for being a proud Greek, but his reasons are also our reasons, making many of us even prouder, whether we live in Greece and are feeling the brunt of this sad affair called “international intervention”, or abroad as Greeks running one of the hundreds of businesses or excelling in so many fields. Greeks have nothing to do with the stereotypes that many WASP countries and their media have conconcted to suit their well-disguised tale of modern-day imperialism… they have a history so vast behind them that it is nearly impossible for one not born a Greek to even begin to understand basic behaviours.
The Greek Vibe is reprinting Tommy Lee’s “manifesto” as a crash course for all of you out there who eat Greek food, listen to Greek music, like Greek wine, long for Greek beaches and love Greek people. Enjoy, learn and join us…
♫ I end today’s a post with a song from one of the country’s cult singers: Manolis Aggelopoulos in “Ellinas Eimai” (I Am a Greek) by Christos Nikolopoulos and Lefteris Hapsiadis.
